Sharif University of Technology Team Shines at ICPC World Finals

Tehran, Iran – The team from Sharif University of Technology SUT) has clinched the West Asia regional championship title at the 49th International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals.

According to the Public Relations Office of SUT, the 49th ICPC World Finals, held from September 9 to 14 in Azerbaijan, saw 140 top teams from around the globe compete. These teams were selected from over 73,000 students representing 3,424 universities across 103 countries through rigorous qualifying rounds.

SUT team, solving 9 out of 12 contest problems, secured an impressive 16th place globally, earning a spot among the five teams awarded the Highest Honor. The team outperformed squads from prestigious institutions such as Cambridge, Berkeley, UCLA, Georgia Tech, CMU, Purdue, EPFL, Duke, Illinois, Texas, Toronto, UBC, Rutgers, Chicago, and ETH Zurich in the final rankings.

A standout moment for the team was solving one of the contest’s most challenging problems faster than any other competitor, earning them a special “First to Solve” award for that problem.

Additionally, SUT team dominated the West Asia region, securing the regional championship with a significant lead. The second-place team from the region, representing Chennai University in India, solved 7 problems and ranked 60th globally.

SUT team consisted of undergraduate computer engineering students Ali Safari, Alireza Keshavarz, and Amirmohammad Shahrezai, under the supervision of Dr. Hamid Zarrabi-Zadeh.
