Sharif University of Technology and Shandong University Launch Bilateral Collaboration on Carbon Capture and Storage

In a significant step toward strengthening scientific ties between Iran and China,  Dr.Mohsen Masihi and Dr.Hassan Mahani faculty members from the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Sharif University of Technology (SUT), and also some faculty members from Semnan University have partnered with Shandong University (China) to launch a bilateral research initiative focused on carbon emissions reduction.

Supported by the Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the collaboration aims to advance research and industrial applications in carbon capture and storage (CCS)—specifically, storing greenhouse gases in depleted oil and gas reservoirs, deep saline aquifers, and other geologically suitable underground formations as a pathway to achieving net-zero carbon goals.

The first joint workshop under this partnership was successfully held on September 27, 2025. Building on this momentum, the second edition of the event is scheduled to take place in Iran in 2026.
