One of the most reputable and reliable university ranking systems, Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), publishes the subject rankings of the world's higher education institutions in addition to universities’ global rankings annually.
This ranking system is divided into 5 categories of general disciplines (Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities) and consists of 54 sub-disciplines. The ranking parameters in this system are based on 5 overall criteria, which are ”number of scientific publications”, “publications in top journals”, “international collaborations”, “the impact of articles”, and “receiving international awards”. This ranking system is largely based on the total score of faculties’ statistics. Around 5000 universities participated in the ranking this year.
Iran's top universities obtained satisfactory places in this year’s competition, especially in the field of Engineering. Sharif University of Technology, University of Tehran, Amir Kabir University, etc. are among the top-ranking universities this year.
Sharif University of Technology is ranked in 11 Engineering fields this year with best performance in Civil Engineering, and the university's global ranking in this field is 76-100. Other fields include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, etc.
