After 4 years of working, a group SUT faculty members at the department of computer engineering and electrical engineering alongside with some other researchers managed to register a patent entitled “OPTICALLY DETECTING MUTATIONS IN Cited SEQUENCE OF DNA” in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Due to the results of this invention, genetic disorders such as physical abnormalities, mental disabilities, cancer, allergies, and nervous system disorders such as MS and Parkinson's can be diagnosed more quickly, and the cost of genetic tests for patients, as well as the time and financial costs of research and development in the field of science and genetic engineering can significantly be reduced. Needless to say, this will contribute to the development of medical and research centers in the country and their progress as centers of excellence.
