Electrical Engineering, Communication Systems entry requirements

Entrance to our MSc in Electrical Engineering, Communication Systems is strongly competitive. You can increase your chances of a successful application by exceeding the minimum program requirements.

Academic requirements

  • An undergraduate (B.Sc.) degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is required.
  • Students should be from the top universities of Iraq or top of class students from other universities in Iraq. Graduates from top universities in other countries, whose degrees are approved by the Ministry of Education of Iraq, are also acceptable. Students should be preferably from highly-ranked (based on QS ranking) universities of Iraq or any other country with a strong background in Math-related courses, e.g., general math, probability and statistics, linear algebra, differential equations, numerical computation, etc. Moreover, knowing ubiquitous software tools in Electrical Engineering, e.g., Matlab or Python is necessary.
  • Applicants younger than 30 years old have more chance of admission.

Supporting your application

  • Relevant work experience is not required but may increase your chances of acceptance
  • Preference will be given to those who provide strong recommendation letters and with high GPA due to strong competition for places on this program.

Important points

  • The ranking of the university at which you studied is considered when we determine whether or not your BSc degree is appropriate to start an MSc.
  • If your degree is not of the required standard and you do not have highly relevant work or other experience, we will normally reject your application.
  • Meeting the degree requirement does not ensure acceptance. A higher standard may be needed for your application to be competitive for admission.
  • A conditional offer can be made if you are waiting for a final degree result or a language test result.

English language requirements

You must demonstrate English language competency at a level that will enable you to succeed in your studies.

English language tests

We accept the following English language qualifications at the grades specified:
students shall have a valid English language proficiency certificate of at least IELTS 6 or TOEFL 69 iBT (54 PTE) or equivalent standard test within two years before enrollment. Applicants with IELTS of 5.5 or TOEFL 52 iBT (45 PTE) must enroll in academic English language in the first semester.

Other important points to note

  • If you already have an English language certificate then you can include this with your application. However, if you have not yet taken a test, we will still process your application and you will be able to upload your results 10 days before our deadline to announce the admission offers.
  • A conditional offer may be given to you if you do not yet meet our minimum English requirement. But you must provide evidence that you have reached the minimum English requirement before we can provide you with an unconditional offer.
  • We advise you to start working towards your English language qualification as early as possible to ensure that you have achieved the required standard in time to start the program.
