Presidents of the five member universities of Iran's Industrial Universities Consortium (UT5) signed joint cooperation memoranda, marking a new step toward strengthening scientific and research synergy across the country and expanding universities' role in addressing national needs and rebuilding war-damaged industries.
UT5 presidents' meeting was held Thursday, June 11, 2026, hosted by Iran University of Science and Technology. Attendees included presidents, vice presidents for research and technology, and international affairs officials from Sharif University of Technology, Amirkabir University of Technology, Isfahan University of Technology, K. N. Toosi University of Technology, and Iran University of Science and Technology.
During the meeting, the presidents signed agreements on shared laboratory services and library cooperation, and approved an updated consortium charter. The laboratory agreement provides for mutual access to equipment and facilities, with a 20 percent discount on laboratory services for research projects and national initiatives—aimed at boosting efficiency, cutting research costs, and accelerating major projects. The library agreement expands physical and digital access to scholarly resources, articles, and databases across the five universities. The updated charter emphasizes expanding joint scientific and technological cooperation and strengthening the universities' role in addressing strategic national challenges.
Participants also discussed the country's postwar industrial needs and how universities could contribute to the reconstruction and modernization of damaged industries, reaching several decisions on the matter.
In their remarks, the presidents highlighted the importance of collective work and inter-university cooperation, describing the agreements as a step toward improving research quality, reducing costs, increasing infrastructure efficiency, and strengthening the international standing of Iran's technical universities.
The meeting concluded with thanks to the consortium's secretariat and a call for swift implementation of the agreements at member universities.
